On colors

Color greed

Although more and more systems use true colors still some computers have a fixed and limited number of colors available (256), most notably some of the X-window systems. These users can experience some troubles. For example, once you have loaded the GoBase search page the Java applet will start to run. Unfortunately, the Java library needs a considerable amount of colors to properly do its work. This implies that fewer (or none) colors are left for other applications to use afterwards (which we consider a serious bug in the current Java implementation).

In case of the GoBase online database this means that we advise you to start up the SGF browser before you load the GoBase Search Page. This way you won't have any problems with the color allocation.
