Ishida Yoshio, Born Aug. 15, 1948 in Nagoya, Aichi.
First major title: 17th Nihon Kiin Championship, 1970, defending
it the next year. Won 26th Honinbo Title, 1971, becoming youngest
Honinbo in history at 22. Held title five straight years: earns
Honorary Honinbo status at age 60. Won 13th Meijin Title, 1974,
becoming third Meijin-Honinbo in history. Winner 22nd & 26th Oza
Titles in 1974 & 1978; Pro Best Ten Title twice; 10th Tengen
Title, 1984; 34th & 37th NHK Cup, 1987 & 1990; 1st IBM Cup, 1988.
Winner of Oteai top section twice, at one point winning 30
straight games. Winner of NEC Cup once, Haya-go three times,12th
Prime Minister's Cup,1968. Winner of KIDO magazine "Most
Outstanding Player" award twice, Shusai Award three times.
Nicknamed "Computer". 1993 record: 15 wins, 14 losses.
Lives in Tokyo.
