Ohira Shuzo, Born Mar. 16, 1930 in Gifu, Japan.
First major title: 13th Nihon Kiin Championship Title, 1966,
defeating Sakata Eio, Honinbo 3-1; defended it next three years
and held it five times in total. With Sakata, Takagawa Kaku and
Ishida Yoshio, is only other player to ever hold this title.
Three time challenger for Nihon Kiin #1 & All Japan #1 Titles;
Finalist for 1st Tengen Title, 1975 (lost to Fujisawa Shuko) and
3rd IBM Cup, 1990 (lost to Kobayashi Satoru). Winner of 10th
Haya-go Championship, 1977. In 1987 won 17 straight games,
setting the record for that year. Participant in Meijin League
five times, Honinbo League four times. 1993 record: 19 wins, 9
losses.
Lives in Yokohama, Kanagawa.
