biography |
Otake Hideo, Born May 12, 1942 in Kita-Kyushu, Japan.
First major title: 6th Nihon Kiin #1 Title, 1967, defeating
Sakata Eio, Honinbo; defended it next year after which it became
All Japan #1 Title which he won all five years it existed until
it became the Gosei Title in 1976. Won Gosei Title seven times
altogether (at age 60 becomes Honorary Gosei). Won 14th Meijin
Title, 1975; defended title next year and held it a total of four
times. Appeared in Meijin Title Match six straight years, second
to Rin Kaiho's ten. In 1980 held four titles: Gosei, Kakusei and
JAA Cup. Winner of 10 Dan Title in 1993, for the fourth time
holding the title. Won many others.
Winner of KIDO magazine "Most Outstanding Player" award twice,
Shusai Award once. Nicknamed "God of Lightning Go". 1993 record:
31 wins, 19 losses.
Lives in Tokyo, Japan.
