Some history
Although it already seems ages it has only been some ten years that we have full access to the world-wide web facilities. Back in 1991 we could browse the sparse content of the web using an ASCII browser and since 1993 we can do so using a web browser with a graphical interface. The support for inline images was quite a break-through at the moment.
While all the necessary technology was there
it was not until 1994 that a substantial number of visitors
started to use it. People were still very much used to traditional
services like ftp, gopher, E-mail and news to gather their
information on the internet. |
