biography Kuwahara Shusaku was born in 1829 and died of cholera in 1862. In his short career he established himself as one of the greatest players of Go history. His record of 19 wins, no losses in the official "castle games" is unique. With Black Shusaku was virtually invincible. There is a story that once when asked the result of a game, he replied simply "I had black". Shusaku's fuseki theory became the starting point for modern Go.
