The Oteai Ranking Tournament is obligatory for professionals associated with the Nihon Ki-in and Kansai Ki-in. The participating professionals can be promoted based on their results in this tournament. All games are played without komi. Once a professional reaches the highest rank (9 dan) they don't need to participate in this tournament anymore.
