Lack of records in January is due to Cho's traffic accident near midnight of the 6th of January. A policeman said he miraculously survived. He was seriously injured, a compound fracture of his both legs and left arm, and his head had also an external wound.

When a writer visited him in hospital at next early morning, he said "I can play Meijin league (against Ishida) on 9th, can't it?, because I have two days rest (today and tomorrow). Fortunately, I have my brain and right hand unwounded." A writer was struck dumb with astonishment, he had only thought about Go!

The superman carried on a stretcher by Yomiuri's airplane to Toyama airport for Kisei title match held on the 16 & 17th. He had played the game in a wheelchair, having his legs and left hand in plaster.
