I am very sad to learn that my friend and colleague Micha Leuw
drowned the 19th of December during his holidays in Thailand.
Micha was an extremely unique personality with an enormous inner
drive for all things which interested him.
He was a tremendously strong chess player and since a few years
an avid Go player, progressing to 1k in no time at all.
He regularly played pair-Go with Guo Juan.
Micha was just 36 years old.

We're sad to inform you that Kato Masao, 9p passed away today
after having spent three weeks in the hospital due to an
operation for a brain tumor.
Kato was known as "the killer" in his early years, due to his
hunger and ability to kill the opponents' groups. Later he became
known as the 0.5-point endgame winner. Recently, Kato
has been director of the Nihon Ki-in, one of the Japanese Go
Organisations for professionals.
The last game played was for the 31st Tengen tournament, it
features once again Kato "the killer".
Kato Masao sensei died at the age of 57.
